Wiss and Company is currently seeking a Project Accountant for our construction client in New York City.   The Project Accountant is a key member of the project management and accounting teams, and will be responsible for managing all of the accounting administration and first-tier (subcontract and purchase order) contract administration for all assigned projects.


Responsibilities in the following areas include:


Contract Administration

  • Create new projects via budget import into accounting software
  • Manage project contact list
  • Create and issue subcontract and purchase order agreements
  • On-going reconciliation of committed costs via change order
  • Manage ongoing insurance requirements of subcontractors and suppliers
  • Work with CFO and Project Managers to ensure project budgets are accurate and current

Accounts Payable

  • Create vendor records in accounting software
  • Enter job-costed invoices in accounting software
  • Create and manage timely receipt of conditional and unconditional lien waivers
  • Manage timely payment of project Accounts Payable
  • Reconcile subcontract and supplier invoices with committed costs
  • Coordinate weekly check run with Office Manager

Accounts Receivable

  • Work with project team to create, submit and manage client change orders
  • Prepare and distribute monthly T&M and fixed price client billings
  • Review and follow up with past-due invoices



  • 3-5 years of experience
  • Construction industry experience required, preferably with residential construction administration
  • Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Subcontract Management and Order Management
  • Minimum Associates Degree required
  • Self-starter who is able to work well with minimal supervision
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and stay organized
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong knowledge of QuickBooks required
  • Knowledge of Timberline software a plus
  • Fluency in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
